How to Stop Instagram from Sending You Constant Notifications?

From individual users to businesses, everyone loves Instagram.

While individuals love the convenience with which they can share amazing content with their friends and family, businesses love its reach and potential.

Due to this, it has quickly turned into one of the most popular social platforms.

As a matter of fact, Statista suggests that Instagram now has more than 1 billion active monthly users, making this only the 3rd platform after Facebook and YouTube to achieve this marvelous feat.

But while Instagram constantly releases new features and they are mostly appreciated by the users, there are a few annoyances too.

The biggest one of the lot is the push notifications.

Right from when someone sends you a DM, follows you, posts a Live Story or something new, or comments or likes your posts, Instagram sends you a push notification for everything.

While you might like this feature when you are just starting on Instagram with a few followers, it can be troublesome for someone with a followership of hundreds and thousands of people on Instagram.

Is there are a way to disable these constant notifications? Read this post to find out.

Disabling Instagram Notifications

A platform as large as Instagram generally has everything that one would expect to make their social experience wonderful and rewarding.

Apart from Instagram notifications not working, receiving too many notifications is one of the most common problems that people face on Instagram.

If you’d like to disable the push notifications, there are a few ways around it. You can do it from your mobile settings, Instagram settings, and can also disable notifications from a particular follower.

Disabling Push Notifications with Mobile Settings

Disabling Instagram push notifications through mobile settings is slightly different for iOS and Android phones. To make things easier, we’ve listed the process for both the OS below.

 For iPhone

If you are using an iPhone, go to “Settings” and look for the “Notifications” option. This will open a list of apps on your phone which support notifications.

Search for “Instagram” and tap it. You’ll now see an “Allow Notifications” switch which you can tap for disabling all the push notifications from Instagram.

 For Android

For Android phones, go to “Settings” and then select “Apps”. Scroll down the list of apps that you have installed in your phone and tap on “Instagram”.

After tapping, you’ll see two buttons on the screen-“Force Stop” and “Uninstall”. Below these options, there’ll be a small checkbox with the text “Show Notifications”.

Uncheck this box and you’ll disable all the notifications from the Instagram app.

Disabling Push Notifications with Instagram Settings

Instagram also lets you disable all the notifications from all your followers through the app.

Apart from this, it also allows you to choose notification types that you want to disable and the ones that you’d like to continue receiving.

If you only want to disable some particular type/s of notifications, follow these steps-

1. Open the Instagram app and tap on the profile icon located in the right-hand corner of the screen. Here, tap on the gear icon (iPhone) or three-dots (Android) to access Account Settings.

2. Scroll down and look for “Push Notifications Settings” option. Tap it and you’ll have a list with all the different types of notifications that Instagram sends, like followers, likes, comments, etc.

3. You can tap each of these notifications to get three options- From Everyone, From People I Follow, and Off.

4. You can select “Off” if you want to disable that type of push notification or select one of the other two options for disabling that type of notification from everyone or from people you follow.

Disabling Post Notifications

If you want to disable post notifications of a particular user, you can do that as well from the Instagram app.

For this, open the Instagram app and use the search bar to search for the username whose posts you don't want to follow.

Once you’ve reached their profile, look for three-dots on the right-hand corner of the screen.

Tap it and you’ll get a list of options, including “Turn off Post Notifications”. Select it and post notifications from that particular user would be disabled.

Instagram and Notifications

The notification feature is useful as it allows you to stay in the loop of what your followers and friends are up to on Instagram.

But receiving a notification every other second when someone likes your post, comments, or follows you can be a major disturbance.

This is very much true for businesses trying to promote themselves on Instagram.

While it is great that you’d like to stay in touch with your followers, you’d sure hate the constant notifications one after the other when you are busy with other business activities or trying to create a solid Instagram marketing strategy.

Conclusion

Attracting more Instagram comments, likes, and followers are what every business on Instagram is trying to achieve.

While the notifications feature is great, it is not really necessary for you to receive notifications for anything and everything that your followers do on Instagram.

Just think about it, would you really like to receive a push notification on your mobile phone at 3 am when someone likes a meme you posted earlier in the day?

No, right? So, use the feature responsibly and in a way that it actually helps you and does not turn into a source of annoyance or disturbance.

Now that you clearly know the different ways in which you can disable all the notifications, selected notifications, and notifications from a particular user, use this knowledge today to enjoy a more peaceful experience on Instagram.
